Lest We Forget

Do you know what today represents? December 7? It seems that our local newspaper does not recall. What a shame that so few people know that today is Pearl Harbor Day. I wonder if they even know what that means. If you ever visit the shrine in Honolulu, HI, you will never forget the awesome reverence that surrounds you. A solemn group of tourists quietly whisper to each other, tiptoe around to read the names of those who lost their lives, or to gaze down into the water at the remains of the USS Arizona. Over 2000 service people were lost that day and many of our battleships were destroyed. Not so many were lost that day in 1941 as in the Twin Towers; yet, one loss of life for our country is too many. Why can't we all live in harmony with one another? The Bible answers that for us and now is a good time to read the Word.
We have so much for which to be proud in America and I, for one, am grateful for all who have given their lives that we might have freedom today. I'm glad that I can celebrate the real meaning of Christmas with my family and friends, aren't you?
