Make-Believe: Where has it gone?

This afternoon, my 2 little grandchildren came over with their mom for a short visit. As usual, they come running in and want a jelly bean or some such treat. Today, it was Mini-Hershey Kisses. I had a little surprise for each of them: a little wooden turtle with heads that bobbled. They were so cute with them and Clay named his "Timmy" the turtle. Livvy never stopped long enough to tell me the name of hers. Then they went on the porch and began their make-believe play. They tied a rope from one piece of furniture to another, then put their turtles on the floor. Next, they got the broom and rode it over to where the rope was strung. Now, I ask you, what was the game? I never got it out of Clay and again, Livvy was too busy to respond. Hmm. I wonder if it was a corral for the horse. What do you think? Ahhhh...make-believe is so much fun! What has happened that so few children get involved with making up such games? When I was small, we made up games all the time and so did my own children. They could play all day without a single prop! Let's encourage the kids to work their imagination.
