An Unexpected Experience
Wednesday, I got up feeling great, drove the 40 miles to enjoy lunch and social time with my friend from work who lives in another city, and returned home later that evening still feeling great. About midnight, I awoke having terrible pains in my left side. There was no more sleeping for me! No position was satisfactory. I tried my back, my side, a fetal position; yet, nothing worked. I sat up the rest of the night and watched the sunrise. When I called the doc, I was told to come on in and he would work me in. After an hour or less there, I was examined and sent to the hospital for further tests, a CT Scan with contrast and blood tests. After a wait of more than 2 hours, I was given the CT Scan. Just as everyone expected, I had a case of diverticulitis; fortunately, it was not so bad that I was hospitalized as was my brother-in-law recently. I was given antibiotics and pain medication which took 24 hours before being effective. If you have ever had this problem, you know that it is most uncomfortable and can be very dangerous too, especially if they should rupture. I feel much better now and plan to be more careful of my food choices. The doc says that everyone over age 50 has some diverticuli (SP), so we all need to be careful.
I'm busy now looking through a lot of information in my planning for our church trip which will be coming up soon. I have a tentative itinerary which I will present Sunday and soon thereafter, I will begin my final preparations. We really enjoy all our trips so I wouldn't expect this one to be any different.
