Preparing for the Day of Hearts
Can you believe that January is coming to a close already? That means we are less than 11 months from Christmas. (Maybe I should start my Christmas shopping) But, first, we have to prepare for Valentine's Day. Do you celebrate this day and, if so, how? I don't think we have ever done anything other than exchange cards and sometimes there would be a box of candy. I do remember my elementary school days though, when we decorated a box for the classroom and everyone placed their cards inside. (I always looked forward to getting the cards that had a lollipop attached). My mom usually served as a grade mother so she would always attend our parties. We would have cupcakes with red icing, red punch, and other little red and white delicacies. I remember, ever since the third grade, I had a little boyfriend and he would give me a special valentine, maybe even a little box of candy. Let's see if I can recall any of their names (it has been a few years): George was the first; Steve was my favorite for many years off and on, even through high school; J.B. was the neatest, most clean-cut; Bruce; Boyd; Tommy; Billy; Ronald, one of the most popular; Johnny was several grades ahead of me in school; Jimmy (two of these); Buddy; etc. As you can see, there were several. One reason I think I picked some of them was their names. Don't you think that names can be "romantic", at least to a child? Heeheehee Yet, they were sooo cute. It's funny that we called them boyfriends when we only liked them best, often passinging notes at school, or holding hands at the movies. After school in the afternoons, we would walk to town to the local drugstore and enjoy sodas. It felt so special to have them carrying our books for us.
I hope that you will plan to do something special for and with your significant other this February. I'm trying to think of something unusual to do for mine. Any ideas?
