Ft Macon, now a national park, was once used as a fort during the Civil War. It once housed soldiers who awaited court martial for various reasons. Later, during other wars, it was used to protect the harbor around Morehead City and Beaufort, NC. The quarters within the fort are well maintained, a cool place to visit. The artifacts one can observe here are quite good and the book store has much to offer the visitor.

Don and I had been to Fort Macon on several occasions but we had never ventured to the fort itself. Anyone interested in The Civil War would
enjoy the exhibits. Be sure to double click on the top photograph and read the information provided there.
