Wide Awake!
Today has been "Celebrate your Birthday" day. One of my very best friends had a birthday yesterday so today I treated her to lunch at a most delightful tea room. Another of our friends came in, saw us and joined our celebration. We then had to do a bit of shopping at JC Penney's. Tomorrow is Don's birthday so I invited Kendra and her family to join us as I treated Don to a night out. He chose to dine at the nearby Mexican restaurant. Now I am totally stuffed and it has been 5 hours since dinner! I'm afraid I won't be getting much sleep tonight. What do you do when you have a night of wakefulness? I will probably enjoy ebay awhile, read for an hour, then lie in bed and watch some sitcom reruns. Many nights the half-hour shows will make me tired and I will finally drift off to sleep; however, I'm not sure tonight will be one of those nights. I have never had success with drinking milk, cold or warm. Sheep don't like to jump my fences. The most successful technique that I use was suggested by a former pastor of my parents. He suggested that I think of the most unpleasant, least favorite chore that I need to perform (ie, wash windows, clean out closets, etc) and tell yourself that you are going to get up right then and go do that chore. He says that you will go to sleep every time! You know, it actually works for me most of the time. (My sister says that it doesn't work for her because she then thinks she needs to get up and go to work. It certainly doesn't have that effect on me!).
Do you ever fall asleep while talking to the Lord? That is so embarrassing. I once told a pastor about that problem that I sometimes have and his response was this: "Can you think of anyone else you would rather be talking with?" Well, I cannot; however, I should be able to stay awake through my prayers. God doesn't go to sleep on me. He's always there and I am so thankful that He is.
Good night. May God bless you and yours real good!
